A lazy day with family.

dsc01405Another beautiful morning, sunny and somewhat cool with dew – quiet and peaceful, we have a leisure start to the day doing nothing much. Everyone is sort of straggling out of bed, except Samantha and Jason who, we discovered, went out early this morning going to the store, and bringing home a whole Coho salmon for dinner. YUM!  Chris and Jessica stop by to say hello and then head out for the day.  Marcus decides to head home about 11 a.m. to beat the afternoon traffic.

Ginny joins us for another ride in our Microbus as we visit a Whole Foods store for provisions and a little extra shopping to stock up the Westy camper for the next leg of our trip.  This is a huge and rather fancy Whole Foods store, making the ones we get to shop in look a bit rag tag! We ‘sample’ our way through the store, realizing we must be hungry and should head home for some lunch. Tommy changed the oil in the VW in preparation for the next leg of the trip. The temperature has gotten warmer – 98’ is hot for the Portland area, especially with the humidity. Greg has just finished mowing the grass and we sit out under the apple tree enjoying the cool shade and fragrance of the freshly mown grass, letting the lazy afternoon ease into evening.

With Marcus headed home and Chris and Jessica not coming back, the whole salmon seems too big for the rest of us. Jason takes over, easily and expertly filleting the whole salmon handling it with confidence. Having grown up in this area, he knows a lot about fish, fishing and fish-filleting. He then joins Greg in preparing us a scrumptious meal of grilled cedar plank Salmon. We have another delightful and relaxed evening on the patio with family before continuing our great adventure on the road in the morning.
