The weather is cooler today than it has been for the past few days. Still it is another beautiful morning. We are up in time to say goodbye to Samantha, then Greg, and while Ginny is getting ready for work, we take our showers. After she leaves for work, we pack up the camper, our comfy Westfalia ‘home on the road, and head out for more adventures on the road, ready to explore Oregon and Washington. Before getting on the highway, we stop to fuel up; making sure our VW Microbus has a full tank and then take Hwy 26 toward the coast and Seaside.
Wow – this is a beautiful drive through dense woods of tall trees in many varieties. Nothing but trees, trees, and more trees! In some places we feel we are in a tunnel of trees.
We catch a glimpse if Mount St. Helens, but miss the viewpoint where we could have had pulled off to get a picture, not knowing that was the ‘view’ until we were past..shucks.
Greg had told us to watch for the downed trees from the hurricane force winds last December. Hard to miss, they are amazing …. HUGE root systems exposed and entire hillsides downed.
The temperature is noticeably cooler as we get nearer to the coast. We begin seeing wisps of fog as we approach Hwy 101 and closer to Seaside it is quite foggy, but, once we get into town, the sun is peaking through and fog is lifting. Still, it is quite chilly and we are ready to get out our jackets! We round a curve, and have to wait for traffic before pulling into a gas station. A split window VW bus towing a tear drop trailer passes by. We get to wave but we don’t see it soon enough to get a picture….would have been fun to have a picture of fellow VW Adventurers!
