Love was in the air on a beautiful sunny Valentine’s Day in Arizona as Volkswagen Lovers came together at the 12th Annual Copperstate Classic, in Avondale, on the western edge of metro Phoenix. Participants filled the parking lot at Universal Technical Institute, a sponsor of the event. There was an exciting variety of Volkswagens, a few unique ‘visitors’, and a bustling Swap area offering greasy old parts and shiny new toys.
Making the scene and entertaining participants and spectators alike, Walter the ‘giant’ Bus was as spectacular at Copperstate Classic in Avondale as he was when we first encountered him at Buses by the Bridge in Lake Havasu City in January. Another familiar sight was the Tillamook Cheese “Loaf” Bus which we first spotted in a parking lot during a visit last fall to the Portland area. This time, we enjoyed the tasty samples of delicious Oregon Tillamook Cheese being offered at their display! Larry Miller Volkswagen Avondale, also a sponsor, offered a fun look at the new 2010 models of VWs; and new parts were offered for sale at sponsor, Doug’s Bugs & Bunnies display, if you didn’t find what you needed in the swap area.
Participants spent the morning choosing their favorites and early in the afternoon, winners in all classes were awarded well deserved trophies, bringing this fun event hosted by Wolfsburg Registry to a conclusion on a beautiful Valentine’s day in Arizona.
