Air-Cooled Fanatics Gather in the Arizona Heat

Arizona is HOT in the summertime but that doesn’t deter the ‘air-cooled’ fanatics!

Vintage Volkswagens and Porsches are known as ‘air-cooled’.  You remember – rear engines and NO radiators?

The cool thing about ‘Air-Cooled’ fans especially Volkswagen collectors, is that their vehicles don’t have to be pristine or show-room quality.  In fact many of these vehicles are lucky to make it down the road under their own power. And their drivers feel lucky to have an old Volkswagen, especially one that runs no matter what shape it is in!

Vintage Volkswagens and Porsches are also ‘classic’ cars collected, driven and appreciated just like other ‘classic’ cars. As with all  ‘classic’ car collectors, the ‘Air-Cooled’ fans love to gather and share stories and eat and talk and share some more stories.

However, these ‘Air-Cooled’ fans are a bit fanatic!  In Arizona, they are willing to suffer the hot Arizona temperatures to drive their vehicles (no radiators but also NO air-conditioning!) to gatherings for the fun of sharing, story-telling and of course eating.

One such gathering is hosted by Aircooled Arizona (a group of German Aircooled VW & Porsche Automobile Enthusiasts and Good Friends Gathering to appreciate some of the most iconic cars ever made). In partnership with the Phoenix Public Market Café  which is a fun place with great food and a large parking area in downtown Phoenix,  Air-cooled AZ invites all ‘Air Cooled’ fanatics to brave the heat and gather to ‘shoot the breeze’ (and eat).

Thanks AIR-COOLED ARIZONA for the fun gathering – even in the heat!

Camping by the Cornfields

Camping by the cornfields is fun at the end of October.

This cornfield in Peoria, Arizona, makes a perfect backdrop for a Volkswagen show and campout in the waning days of October. The corn is still high and beginning to dry out making a soft rustling sound in the breeze but it is not ready for Autumn decorations just yet. The summer heat has lessened and the sunlight is soft and warm. This is the 2nd Annual Volkstock – a gathering of all things Volkswagen hosted by Lundy Peoria Volkswagen.

The show is well attended and the crowd especially enjoys being on a grassy soccer field next to the cornfield. Some participants are day trippers sharing the fun of a gathering of all types of Volkswagens while others choose to camp over night next to the cornfield.  All attendees seem to have a great time. It is always fun being a part of the the Volkswagen scene.

Production Ends but Beloved Buses Will Live Forever

The final production of the beloved VW Bus is scheduled for December 31 of this year. But these delightful iconic vehicles will live on forever in our memories, stories, and continuing adventures with those we’ve managed to keep on the road.

Fun in the '61 Westy

Having fun “bringing joy to people on the highway” as we drive around in our ’61 Westy . . .

. . we  appreciate the sentimental and nostalgic views shared in this heartwarming NBCNEWS Business article about the end of the VW Bus Production Era:

VW’s hippie hauler is ending its long, strange trip
